The first room they put me in was very poorly lit, had a broken dresser, and had a bathroom door that was so warped that it did not even fit in the frame anymore. The bathroom was so small that you'd basically have to stand on the toilet to take a shower. Then they insisted I had to switch rooms and pay an additional 160RMB because the original room I was in was not for foreigners. Not up for negotiation. The new room was much nicer and and actually felt like a real hotel. They refused to comp me a breakfast or even an extra bottle of water for my troubles and extra money. The first gentleman I dealt with was very apologetic but the one that came on after had a terrible attitude.
The room was nice enough but my whole experienced there got soured after I'd handed in washing (incl. some really expensive Italian shirts) which they must've mislaid somehow, let's say...
In the end they insisted I didn't give them any washing!
Front desk either all can speak English or for multiple shifts, none at all, which turns simple requests like finding out about your washing or getting a taxi into you having to be Marcel Marceau - mind-boggling staff scheduling.
So, they LOST about 2000 RMB's worth of clothing of mine plus I had to pay another 1350 RMB for three nights there.
If I knew that I would've stayed in a better hotel (like The Intercontinental just down the road.)
In conclusion:
Avoid.
Dodgy.
